Our Chapter

A Brief History:

The American Sewing Guild (ASG) is a national nonprofit organization [501(c)(3)] dedicated to individuals who believe sewing is a rewarding and  creative sewing activity .  The  national headquarters are located in Houston, TX.  More about the history of ASG can be found at ASG.org.
Our chapter recieved the ASG Charter in 1996 when a group of ladies who had been meeting  as a sewing group for a number of years decided to join this national organization of home sewers.   We currently have about 135 members.

Our Chapter Now:

This year we are celebrating our 15th Anniversary.  Special Events have been planned for each month.  See the "Calendar" and "Events" page for details and information.  Several of these events such as our Annual Bus Trip, Education Seminar in September, and Annual Meeting in October are open to the public.

Neighborhood Groups (NGs) are the heart of our chapter.  We currently have 12 NGs that meet in and around Fort Wayne, IN.  In NGs we share what we are sewing, ask questions and get help, share our expertise and learn new skills.  We also connect with each other and find sewing friends.  More information about the NGs can be found on the "Calendar" and "Neighborhood Groups" pages.

We publish a bi-monthly newsletter for our members titled Sew On . . . Sew Forth.  The newsletter communicates information about our chapter, chapter events, and other sewing related information.  Members also receive the quarterly Notions from our national headquarters.

Our members participate in a variety of sewing interests.  Garments, quilting, home decorating, sewn craft projects, gifts, machine embroidery, felting, wearable art, and costuming are just the beginning.  The skills of our members range from the beginner getting their first sewing machine and not sure what to do with it once they take it out of the box to the most talented garment tailoring.  Most of us are somewhere in between.  We are a community of sewers who share our love of sewing and encourage one another.

Community Service is important to us.  It is wonderful to be able to use our talents and resources to help others.  Twice a year we schedule an all day sew-in to construct fleece hat/mittens/scarf sets for the needy in our area as well as other chapter wide community service projects.
