Sewers are creative! The ASG mission statement says it all: "Advancing Sewing As An Art And Life Skill." This section will keep you posted on the creativity expressed by our membership as a collective.
We all sew to enhance our own personal lives, these projects will have an effect or influence on others. It's always rewarding to create something and be appreciated for that contribution. Now is your chance to participate in these special chapter projects. You know your creativity will be appreciated!

2011 ASG National Community Service Project
This year we are working on the Painted Turtle Pillow project for seriously ill children. These pillows will be donated to The Painted Turtle Camp.
The Painted Turtle Camp is the 6th addition to the Paul Newman family of Hole in the Wall Camps for seriously ill children. It is the only multi-disease camp and family care center of its kind on the West Coast. Through educational, therapeutic, safe and just plain fun summer camp and year-round programs, The Painted Turtle Camp provides a life-changing experience to children whose daily struggles often diminish their desire and their ability to lead a rich, productive life. To learn more about The Painted Turtle visit www.thepaintedturtle.org or for a pattern and directions check our national website http://www.asg.org under Community Service.

COMMUNITY SERVICE SEW-INS
Once again we will be making fleece hats, scarves and mittens for our community service events in January and November. In the past we have been able to provide several hundreds of items to LOCAL organizations that safeguard the welfare of children. So far, we've donated to 5 different organizations. Each winter there has been an increasing need for our contribution. This year we would like to be able do even more. If you are able to donate fleece, cut-out pieces, or make the sets in advance every bit of your effort will be appreciated.
All of the items will be completed and prepared for donation at each of the Community Service Sew-Ins. For details, check the Events or Calendar sections of our website. So please plan to attend & watch our Chapter in action. It is amazing how much we can accomplish and have so much fun at the same time!
This would be a great opportunity to help children that will not otherwise have hats and mittens to keep Frosty from nipping at their noses. If you are making items in advance of the Sew-In and need help getting patterns and/or fleece for the pieces, please contact our Chapter Community Service Chair, Carolyn Delagrange at cdelagrange03@yahoo.com or 260-627-5896.
Also, there will be additional community service oriented projects at every Sew-In. These projects are selected for the Sew-Ins to fulfill a need in the community. If you know of an organization that our Chapter may be able to help with sewn items, please contact our Community Service Chair at at the above information.
